Alas Purwo Banyuwangi offers a variety of tourism potential that is so interesting to visit, one of them is Giri Seloka Temple ( Pura Luhur Giri Seloka ). An historic ancient temple hidden in the jungle at the Alas Purwo. Even though it is located in the jungle but the place is always visited by Hindus in Java and especially from Bali. Not only visited by Hindus but by other travellers. The temple can be used as a place of religious tourism ( Tirtayatra ) and travel history. When we crossed to the temple, our eyes were treated by tropical forest that had never seen before, a kind of strange sounds of various birds will accompany our steps, so the trips was not boring.


The name of
Alas Purwo is taken from the word "
Purwo ", which in
Java language means "
Kawitan " or starters. Thus,
Alas Purwo means first forest or the oldest forest of
Java. For the people of
Banyuwangi, the place is known to be very austere and including a sacred place. This story is reinforced by the conditions of Alas Purwo forest that is still virgin. In history,
Alas Purwo as the place where the
Majapahit people stay after the collapse of the last Hindu Kingdom. According to information received at the location, this place is considered most sacred by the
Hindus because there is a temple (
Pura Luhur Giri Seloka ) that was originally believed to be a hermitage by
Hindu leaders who later spread of
Hinduism in
Bali.

Some of the fauna found in the
Alas Purwo National Park such as: Bull of Java ( Banteng Jawa ), deer, wild boar, langur ( Lutung ), gray monkey, lizards, and so on. Om 🙏🙏🙏 Om.
